What is it charged for?

Officially the charge covers expenses like administration, equipment maintenance or cleaning. In practice it's an additional source of income which — unlike the monthly membership — doesn't show up in the advertised price. Typical amounts are €15–25 per half-year, so due once or twice a year.

How much it raises the real price

Example: €20 service charge per half-year = €40 per year. Worked out per month that's around €3.30 extra — every month, permanently. On an advertised €20 tariff you effectively pay over €23.
