Frequently asked questions
- What notice period applies to a gym?
- That's stated in your contract. Typically 1–3 months before the end of the minimum term. For contracts from 01/03/2022 onward: the initial term may not exceed 24 months, after which the contract is cancellable monthly with a maximum notice of one month (§ 309 no. 9 BGB).
- How do I cancel my gym correctly?
- In four steps: check the notice period in your contract, create the cancellation letter (our generator fills in name, address and studio automatically), send it verifiably (registered mail, email with read receipt, or the statutory cancellation button under § 312k BGB), and request confirmation of the contract's end.
- Can I cancel my gym without notice because of relocation?
- As a rule no – the German Federal Court of Justice ruled that a relocation alone is not good cause for extraordinary cancellation (BGH, XII ZR 42/10). Some terms and conditions do allow goodwill if no branch of the chain is reachable at the new place of residence. This is not legal advice.
- Do I have to cancel my gym by registered mail?
- It's usually not required, but recommended: in the event of a dispute you need proof that and when your cancellation arrived. A registered letter or an email with a read receipt fulfils that.
